I agree they are not just sliding by, they wouldn't own a MLB franchise if they were working at DQ

Re: Clemens To Yanks...

I'm a Sox fan, and I hate the Yankees.

Hopefully Clemens doesn't help at all. That being said, he probably will unless he falls victim to the pitchers health curse.

I wouldnt have minded a bit having him on the Sox although I expect him to eventually fall off or get injured.

He won't have the problem he had with lack of run production when he pitches that he had with the Astros.

That being said, I would say that this limits the Yankees for their later in the year splurge. The Sox will still have room and still have prospects (something the Yankees aren't quite as blessed with...they've been having to throw most of theirs).

Zambrano may be available, especially since the Cubs are being sold. Come later in the year, I expect some others to be available, Rich Harden is supposedly out there if someone shells out for him. I wouldn't be terrible shocked to see Ichiro up on the market, and the Sox have been known to have interest that route.

As much as I've enjoyed seeing the Yankees implode early, they'll be there because the offense is prolific. That being said, I think that Damon is starting the downward swing that the Sox expected, and the legendary talent that was Melky is seeming to come back to reality.

I gotta disagree about Dice-K, if anything I expect him to right the ship.

Re: Clemens To Yanks...

Clemens said he went to the Yankees to win a WS this year. They need more than him to help them win a WS this year.

Re: Clemens To Yanks...

How so?
People say that all the time, yet they cannot say why. is it because they spend money on the players? Which is what you are supposed to do, as it is a business. They developed their core players and added pieces through free agency and trade, which is how all of the other major league teams do it as well. Why was this never said when Boston bought their title, actually all teams buy the players, you can see now, it takes as much luck to win it as anything. Staying healthy is the key. So what do the Yankees need so bad? Before the season started the weak spot or the concern was pitching, no one knew the injuries would take place. Id say that can be said for any team.
But hey, show me something Yankees do thats illegal or wrong, and Ill concede, they pay the luxury tax, they invest in their players, its that simple. 26 times.

I expect the luxury tax to increase.

Yankees have the money to spend. Their network basically gives them a blank check.

Sox are closing in on them, no doubt.

I don't fault them for making the move, just hope it blows up in their face.

Part of me expects the Sox, since Lester is about back, to make a move with Tavarez and prospects for Helton. Sort of their attempt to match.

Re: Clemens To Yanks...

Where does Clemens fit into the rotation right now? I assume that as soon as he "gets healthy" he will be penciled in to start, my guess is no later than June 1st.

It honestly would not surprise me to see Boston sign somebody big regardless of how well they have started off. It just always seems that Theo is trying to make every move Cashman makes a pissing contest.

If anything I would LOVE to see Andurw Jones in centerfield next year at Fenway. I'd rather have Trot Nixon out there right now then Coco Crisp.

Re: Clemens To Yanks...

Unfortunately thats a good possibility Dane. Right now Andruw is too worried about the big bucks he will be pulling and trying to kill the ball, instead of just hitting it. His stock will still be high, but it would be better if he would calm down a little bit.

Hopefully, something will happen and Liberty's wallet will be a little thicker than anticipated, and the Bravos can retain him though. Its hard to believe he just turned 30, although it is his 10 or 11th full season, and is still the best CF in the game when you figure the offensive/defensive combination as he has been for some time now.
